You know it's going to be a strange day when you start to give them both heck because this is the 4th time during the night that you have had to do this.
BUT...
Then you look up and see two coyotes in your yard and the dogs just want them gone.
Boy how fast emotions can change.
I yell "Go get 'um Annie", who is the crazy 3 yr old husky without any courage whatsoever when it comes to coyotes..she makes alot of noise but won't chase them.
But the 11 year old Basset Hound...look out coyotes.
It changes to "Go get 'um Bruno" and off he goes.
The problem was one coyote just stood and looked at me...so I started to yell at it. Yes, I am on my deck at 4 am, in my pj's, yelling at coyotes who don't take me seriously.
I don't like coyotes and I really do not like them in my yard.
I ran back inside got my shoes and my son's quad key.
I did not once rationalize that the bear may be out there too. Why would I consider that? I was going to help Bruno the hound.
I also was worried because those stinking coyotes have tried to get my dogs once before even going to the extent of luring them out to the field. Okay the Husky was not as stupid as the hound and stayed put. This incident ended up with my husband on the deck in -20 Celsius weather with only his underwear, hunting coat and gun on. He shot the coyote in the field, even though it was dark. A proud moment for both of us.
Getting back to my story. I hop on the quad and try to get it started to go see if Bruno is okay. I am delighted that my idiot dog was brave and chased the coyotes but also a little worried that they coyotes had other plans for my aging animal.
Of course I can't get the quad started because I am an idiot.
So I go back inside the house because the bear that eats baby calves right across the road from me could be right around the corner of my house and I wait for my hound to come back.
He does and takes his sweet time walking into the house...I just want to goto bed.
The husky got put in the garage because a person needs some sleep eventually.
And that is my story.

I will remind you all that I grew up here as a child and only left to live in the city for 5 years. But as a child I had no fear of any wild animals {I lie badgers scare me, they still do}. We also did not have a bear that eats baby calves...I won't go into details but lets just say this is Mama Bear's 4th kill and she always leaves leftovers to come back to, if you know what I mean.
I have decided that the pink gun my husband wanted to get me will be ordered today!
